Making meaningful New Year’s resolutions is tough. The problem with them, is much like the problem of life itself. Human beings are notoriously bad at resisting temptation…especially if we are tired, busy or stressed. By January 8th most resolutions have fallen by the wayside. And by the end of the year, fewer than 10% have been fully realized. What is a well-intentioned, hard working millennial to do?? Gravity Float & Wellness is recommending its own 3 R’s. Simple. RELAX and treat yourself better. For better or for worse, 2018 will be a year of change. Prepare your mind and body for the highs and lows that lie ahead. REFLECT back on 2017 (or 2016) looking for periods of time when you felt and performed at your best. What were the circumstances around that time? Who were the people in that scenario, what was the energy like that you felt? Is it possible to recreate that environment and stay there awhile while you set goals for the new-year? Sensory deprivation is a scientifically proven tool in self visualization. It increases personal performance, improves motivation and concentration. It can become your new sustained practice.
RESOLVE to do your best and be your best in all you do. The fact that many of us make resolutions (even when we know we can’t follow through completely), means that we have hope and a level of belief to change ourselves and be more of who we really want to be. So, put your phone down. Hold eye contact with strangers for 2 seconds longer than normal. Smile more. Extend an invitation. Shovel someone else’s driveway. Make a donation to the food bank.
